History of Bentley
Bentley has been running for three centuries now. It was started in January 1919 by a man named Walter Owen Bentley. It is a British company and it was taken over by Rolls Royce in 1931. That is when the cars really started to become more luxurious. Then in 1998 the company was owned by the Volkswagen Group, Germany.
After purchasing the Bentley brand, Volkswagen spent an impressive £500 million on the factory in Crewe to modernise it. The company hit an all time high in 2007 when it sold more than 10,000 vehicles in a year. Since then sales have dropped a little but the Bentley still remains one of the most popular car manufacturers.
Walter Owen Bentley started out creating rotary aero-engines for World War II. He then went on to create cars for the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1924. The cars won and that is what grabbed the attention of Rolls Royce.
